Primary Division (Ages 6-12)

Primary I

Primary I classes are designed for Dance For Fives graduates and/or dancers ages six – eight who are new to the studio. There are several sections of this class geared to meet the needs of new beginners and those with prior dance experience. This level consists of thirty minute classes in ballet, tap, and jazz for a total of ninety minutes.

Primary II

Primary II classes are designed for dancers ages seven – twelve with significant prior dance experience outside of the DDC and current students at DDC who have completed several sessions at the Primary I level. The length of this ballet/tap/jazz combinations remains ninety minutes, however course work continues to progress as the technique and combinations become more complicated.

Primary III

Primary III classes are designed as “transition classes” for dancers eight – thirteen, to help prepare them for the move up to the Youth Division.

  • Dancers should have successfully completed several sessions of Primary I and II, or have appropriate dance training and technique to begin this level.
  • Class time at this level will increase to two hours as listed:
    Ballet – 45 minutes
    Tap - 45 minutes
    Jazz - 30 minutes
  • Dancers may choose to add a modern technique class at this level for an additional 45 minutes.
  • Ballet students will begin Grade I in the Cecchetti syllabus.
